Children’s Day falls on Friday, 2 October 2026. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate without spending a fortune, you’re in luck. From arts festivals to hidden playgrounds to F1-season activities, here’s your guide to family-friendly activities this October.

1. Octoburst! at Esplanade (2 Oct)

Esplanade’s annual children’s arts festival returns on 2 October 2026 with a full day of free performances and activities.

What to catch:

• The Story Keeper’s Room: An interactive installation featuring stories created by children across Singapore, with live storytelling sessions

• Riff Raff Glitter Noise: A free roving performance where three musicians turn kids’ silly wiggles into music. Recommended for ages 3 and up

• The Color-Your-Mood Flower Studio!: Kids can craft their own colourful mood flowers

• The Feelings Farm: Live in Concert!: A family-friendly concert at the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre

• Meet the Joyful Voices!: A children’s choir performing Disney and musical favourites

2. Anime Earth at City Square Mall (28 Sep to 4 Oct)

A free anime and cosplay pop-up by the Singapore Cosplay Club, running daily from 11 am to 7:30 pm at Level 1 Atrium, City Square Mall. No tickets, no pre-registration needed for general access. Farrer Park MRT is a two-minute walk away.

What’s happening:

• Atrium A: Festival-themed anime and cosplay merchandise booths throughout the week. Interactive game booths join from Friday to Sunday

• Atrium B: An art exhibition by Takahan Tan from Monday to Thursday, then emerging local artists take over from Friday to Sunday

• Free Drawing Workshops on 3 and 4 October: Two sessions daily at 2 pm and 4 pm. Registration is free via www.anime-earth.com

Bonus for shoppers: From 2 to 4 October, spend $20 in a single receipt and redeem a Japanese Super Ball Scooping game or a yukata experience for up to four people. Limited to first 500 daily.

3. Learning Gallery at Singapore Art Museum (Free Entry)

A free exhibition at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Level 1 Gallery 2. Open daily from 10 am to 7 pm. No bookings required for individuals.

What kids will love:

• Animal Roulette by David Chan: A wall filled with colourful animal figurines

• Interactive play area with beanbag chairs and children’s picture books

• Multimedia wall with animations that respond to movement

• Works by celebrated local photographers and artists exploring themes of identity, home, and childhood

4. World Animal Day at National Library (3 to 4 Oct)

A free family-friendly event on animal welfare, organised by the Animal & Veterinary Service with support from NLB and SPCA. Runs 10 am to 5 pm at The Plaza, National Library Building.

What to expect:

• Hands-on experiences and engaging programmes about animal care

• Community connections with animal welfare groups

• Free September programmes leading up to the main event

5. Lights by the Lake at Jurong Lake Gardens (19 Sep to 4 Oct)

A signature Mid-Autumn event at Jurong Lake Gardens featuring larger-than-life lantern displays, cultural showcases, music performances, and family-friendly activities. Free admission, open from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm daily.

What to see:

• Lantern displays along the lake (19 Sep to 4 Oct)

Important: Open flames like candlelit lanterns and sparklers are not permitted. Visitors are encouraged to take public transport as large crowds are expected.

6. F1 Season Family Activities (2 to 11 Oct)

Children’s Day overlaps with the F1 Grand Prix Season Singapore this year. Here’s what’s confirmed free and what isn’t.

INNERDRIVE: The Performance Circuit 2026 (28 Sep to 11 Oct, Plaza Singapura & Funan)
Free for all ages. A digital race-week city quest with athlete stories and a six-sector circuit challenge blending sports, wellness, and gamification. No purchase required; register for an F-Number to play.

F-LUX Art’s Fluid Space (7 to 13 Oct, The Arts House)
Complimentary art exhibition exploring the intersection of fluid dynamics and creativity, curated by Nadia Stefanel.

Other GPSS Events (Admission Not Confirmed as Free)

The following events are part of GPSS 2026 but STB’s annex does not state admission as free. Check official channels before travelling:

• Orchard Paddock 2026 (8 to 10 Oct, Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza): Late-night dining at Refuel Station, open-air movie screenings, live performances headlined by ALYPH and YAØ on 8 Oct

• adidas Motorsport Popups (28 Sep to 12 Oct, Funan & Raffles City): Show car displays, racing simulators, exclusive collections

7. Free Playgrounds Worth Visiting

Singapore’s parks and HDB estates are home to some truly unique free playgrounds:

• Bidadari Park, Adventure Playwoods: A 5-metre-tall treehouse climbing structure with long slides, climbing nets, a zipline, and a sand pit

•Garden Waterfront II @ Tengah (216B Tengah Garden Ave)
Inspired by Singapore’s National Butterfly, this new playground opened in April 2026. It features a multi-play tower for climbing and sliding, a rope climbing structure, and butterfly motifs woven into the safety surfacing. Warm orange tones and custom EPDM flooring make it a vibrant, garden-themed space that reflects Tengah’s identity as Singapore’s newest garden town.

• COMO Adventure Grove at Botanic Gardens (Gallop Extension): A 10-metre-tall banyan tree climbing tower with climbing ropes, swings, hammocks, and two tube slides. Best for ages 5 and up

Note: COMO Adventure Grove has no shade. Go early morning or late afternoon, and bring hats and sunscreen.

8. Gardens by the Bay (Free Outdoor Areas)

The outdoor gardens at Gardens by the Bay are free to explore, including Supertree Grove, Heritage Gardens, Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes, and the Far East Organization Children’s Garden (water play area).

Garden Rhapsody, the nightly light and sound show at Supertree Grove, is also free.

Mid-Autumn Festival lantern displays run from 12 to 27 September 2026 at Golden Garden, Supertree Grove, Bayfront Plaza, and Flower Dome. Free admission from 6 pm to 10 pm daily.

9. ACM & Me at Asian Civilisations Museum (Free for Singaporeans and PRs)

A children’s activity space at ACM, refreshed with new artwork and activities inspired by the special exhibition Let’s Play! The Art and Design of Asian Games.

What kids can do:

• Who am I?: Stamp and create a self-portrait, then add it to the community wall. Mix and match accessories at the magnetic mirror

• What’s My Story?: Create a fantastical creature using colourful pieces shaped like wings, paws, and tails. Shine it on an overhead projector and tell its story

• What Can I Create?: Stack, climb, and build with soft oversized blocks, then dance in a space with colourful lights and music

• A Tapestry of Feelings: Choose a colourful strip of fabric that matches your mood and weave it into the community wall

• Snakes and ladders with a twist: Play a game inspired by Asian games and uncover fun facts along the way

• Calm corner: A brand-new space to unwind
